VIOLIFE JUST LIKE CHEDDAR SLICES // REVIEW //
sucks ☐ / passable ☐ / great ✓ / perfect ☐
so! it’s time for a *cheese duel*… or something.
basically I have this thing of violife “cheddar1” and I want to figure out how it tastes best! we have two sandwiches here: our first duelist is GRILLED CHEESE, the most basic and best way to test how this cheese tastes when Melty! (cheese, bread, pepper, avocado oil2 for pan)— and then our second duelist is CHEESE SANDWICH, which tests how this cheese tastes UnMelty!!! on a sandwich (cheese, bread, along with mayonnaise and pepper).
#1: GRILLED CHEESE
so. I put this in a pan and it takes FOREVER to melt. maybe i am just impatient?3 but it didn’t get as melty as I *quite* hoped before it was done and I decided to eat it. The grilled cheese tasted fine. Kind of… bland and basic I would say. It was by no means bad, but nothing particularly interesting. I would say, this grilled cheese in comparison to good planet food’s plant based cheddar makes a subpar grilled cheese.
pros: the cheese holds together well (good planet’s sometimes crumbles into a million pieces, which as you can imagine is Frustrating) and does not have an unpleasant taste. it melts pretty well too
cons: the cheese barely tastes like anything
► so I would say make this into a grilled cheese if you have it, sure, but I would not be hugely *interested* in it.
As a grilled cheese, this cheese is:
sucks ☐ / passable ✓ / great ☐ / perfect ☐
now on to our second duelist!!!!
#2: CHEESE SANDWICH
I first noticed how well this cheese holds together when I took it out of the package and it did not fall to pieces in my hands. Since I was hungry, I ate like four pieces of the cheese. I would not do this with good planet’s cheddar. The texture of this cheese, unmelted, is very creamy and nice, the taste very reminiscent of a mild cheddar.
It suddenly occurred to me that it might make a very good cheese sandwich.
*o.oOo.O[LATER]O.oOo.o*
cheese sandwiches are very easy to make. just toast the bread and put mayonnaise on top then cheese and pepper and you’re done! How does this hold up?
pros: tastes like how a cheese sandwich should taste. it does not taste like a “fake cheese sandwich” it tastes like a Real Cheese Sandwich, although it’s still pretty mild you can very much tell the cheddar-ness of the cheese and it works together nicely with the rest of the sandwich.
cons: I could have done with the cheese being just a tad crumblier. although the texture is nice and creamy, it more “rips” than “crumbles” or “melts” in your mouth, which isn’t quite the thing. but that’s a *very* minor issue, mostly noticeable because of just how much it otherwise acts like actual cheese.
As a cheese sandwich, this cheese is:
sucks ☐ / passable ☐ / great ✓ / perfect ☐
IN CONCLUSION: the winner of our duel is the Cheese Sandwich, which completely demolishes the Grilled Cheese and leaves it melted on the floor! oh well, better luck next time, Grilled Cheese!
WHERE TO BUY: in some regular supermarkets. probably amazon too, at least some of their cheese is on amazon but I couldn’t find this specific one
***general disclaimer. check certification & ingredients, use your judgment. not everything I review is certified
it is not.
you can do buttery stuff but I went for a tasteless oil to better compare the cheese (since that’s what i also do a lot of times with good planet’s if I’m feeling lazy & it turns out quite good)
me? never
very fun post! i loved the end of the duel (where the Grilled Cheese ended up melted on the floor :)
